Ashel's ex-husband kidnapped her for several months, and kept her in a dark cellar that barely got any light. There were rats there, and as she was pregnant at the time she had a constant fear of falling asleep and waking up to find the rats had eaten the baby out of her stomach, because she couldn't see them coming. As such she doesn't go anywhere near dark places--or rodents.

The experience with her first husband has, and still, haunts her. She barely knew him when they got married, which was her first mistake; her second was becoming pregnant with his child. He became possessive and over-protective, to the point of cutting her off from the world, and when she objected he locked her up for real. Because of this she doesn't trust strangers anymore, and even less so strange men, because they too easily over-power her. She will never allow herself to be alone with someone she doesn't know.
